ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Desirae Pierce
Movement has shaped Desirae’s life from the beginning. She started ballet at three years old and grew up with a deep connection to both movement and creativity.
But it was loss that ultimately led her to yoga.
Motivation
After the death of her father, Desirae fell into a deep depression. Yoga gave her a place to breathe, move, and slowly find her way out of the darkness. Through the practice, she experienced firsthand how movement could reconnect the body, mind, and spirit. She knew she wanted to share that possibility with others.
Expertise
In 2006, Desirae opened Breath and Body Yoga in Austin, Texas, where she built a vibrant yoga community, trained teachers, and taught thousands of students, from elite collegiate athletes to people stepping onto a yoga mat for the first time.
Change
As the years passed, both Desirae and her students changed. She began working more intimately with people recovering from surgery and injury, living with Parkinson’s and dementia, and navigating the natural changes of aging.
The strong, dynamic practice she had taught for years was not always what these bodies needed.
Method
Desirae began to understand strength differently.
Sometimes healing wasn’t about doing more. It was about returning to the body, beginning with the support of the ground, reconnecting to the breath, and discovering what movement was possible today.
That discovery became The Future Shape of Strong.
Ready to Heal is where the journey begins, a practice for anyone whose body or life has changed and who is searching for a way forward.
For Desirae, the message is deeply personal: movement helped her find her way back to life. This book is her way of helping others begin to find theirs.
